Christian education is at the heart of Our Saviour but most especially for our children and Sunday School.
Our Saviour was first a Sunday School. In 1910, Mrs. Anna Salvesen invited a group of children to her home for a birthday party and then invited the group back the following weekend for a Sunday School class. These children formed the nucleus for a Sunday School which soon outgrew the Salvesen's home. By March 1913, the Sunday School was formally organized. The desire for Christian education for the children and adults of Stone Harbor directly influenced the next step taken, the establishment of a worshiping community of faith.
Classes for age 3 through 12 are held on Sunday at 10 AM all year round.
A nursery is available for children under age 3 at 10 AM.
We welcome children ages 3 to 12 to visit our Sunday School and join us for Bible stories, crafts, singing and fun every Sunday morning at 10 AM year round. Children first worship with their families in the sanctuary. After the children's sermon with Pastor Glenn, the children are invited to join their teacher in the parish hall. Sunday School is usually 45 minutes to an hour and ends at the same time as the worship service.
Confirmation for youth in grades 7 - 8 is a two year program held each Sunday. Classes do not meet Memorial Day through Labor Day due to the 8:30 AM Summer Worship Service.
Holy Communion instruction is provided for children in fifth grade.
Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are celebrated with activities and parties for the children at Our Saviour along with hayrides, pumpkin picking, skating parties, gingerbread house decorating, egg hunts, swim parties, and family trips to sporting events. Christian education combines with family fun throughout the year.
Our Sunday School has a staff of dedicated teachers and volunteers. If you would like to get involved, contact Pastor Eloise.
